Description
For those who love a dark roast, this is not a coffee roasted quickly and burnt. Dark Roast Signature brings together coffee from two of our producer partners: a natural Brazil from Cerrado lays a soft, sweet base, while coffee from the Gayo highlands of Sumatra, processed with the region's own wet-hulling method, adds earthy depth and that characteristic weight.
In the cup, a gentle smokiness, bittersweet chocolate and molasses. The body is thick, acidity almost absent, the finish long and bittersweet. It stands up to sugar and plenty of milk; the first coffee of the morning for anyone who wants a classic, powerful cup.
We take the dark roast slowly and patiently, finishing at the start of second crack and never letting oil reach the bean surface, so there is smoke but no ashy bitterness. We also recommend it for Turkish coffee and the moka pot.
Brew tips
Thick and comfortable in a French press at 1:12; for espresso start with 18 g in, 40 g out, 25 seconds at 90 °C, as the lower temperature balances bitterness; see the espresso guide. For Turkish coffee choose the finest grind.
